“If there’s going to be a free encyclopedia, I’d like there to be a better free encyclopedia.” These are the words of Larry Sanger, who (depending on whom you ask) may or may not have co-founded the now-ubiquitous Wikipedia.
This week, Sanger will launch Citizendium in an effort to compete with Wikipedia. According to an article in today’s Boston Globe, Sanger’s “goal is to capture Wikipedia’s bustle but this time, avoid the vandalism and inconsistency that are its pitfalls.”
I particularly enjoyed the photo that accompanied the Globe article (long rows of tall shelves filled with good old-fashioned reference books… be still, my beating heart).
