The Authors Guild, the Association of American Publishers and Google today announced a proposed settlement agreement resolving the “book search” class action lawsuits brought against Google in 2005.
In a victory for researchers, the agreement, if approved by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, will ultimately provide greatly enhanced access to copyrighted works through Google Book Search while at the same time providing a mechanism for the compensation of copyright holders.
