We all know that Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger III, captain of US Airways Flight 1549, is an exemplary pilot. But did you know he’s just as conscientious a library patron? The AP reports that he had a book checked out from California State University Fresno’s library that was left in the plane’s cargo hold after the emergency landing on the Hudson. Amidst the flurry of activity that surrounded him, Sullenberger made time to call the library to ask for an extension of his due date: The librarians say they were struck by Sullenberger’s sense of responsibility and did him one better: they’re waiving all fees and dedicating the replacement book to him. The book’s subject? Professional ethics. Photo by Ingrid Taylar on Flickr |
