One thing I have learned in over half a decade working in higher education: our schools, our classes, and our communities are not separate from or immune to what goes on in the wider world.

Life does not happen in a vacuum. Neither does the work we do in this office. There is a lot going on in the world right now, and so I wanted to be sure to provide y’all with a few updates on the Junior Deferral Program application cycle this year.

Things are pretty uncertain right now. In the midst of so much uncertainty, we want to try to focus on the future, focus on what we can control, and focus on giving you as much clarity as we can about the work we are doing to support you and other applicants.

We realize that many of our applicants are moving out of your dorms, transitioning to online courses, searching for summer opportunities, and having your test dates cancelled or postponed. These academic and professional changes may also be happening alongside major disruptions to your personal lives. As we also navigate our own set of changes here at Harvard Law School, we have decided to extend the Junior Deferral Program deadline to July 1, 2020.

We hope that this adjusted deadline allows you more time to adjust, prepare, and complete your applications. As we move forward, be sure to follow our updates on Twitter, the Admissions Blog, our Junior Deferral Program website, and JDP FAQs. We are planning to host a few more online information sessions and virtual application office hours, so stay tuned for more information soon.

In the meantime, stay well, stay in touch, and let us know how we can help. We are here for y’all.
