If ignorance of the law is no excuse, why does it cost so much to read? Many of the laws of the United States are not online at all, or are only available to people who can pay. Come meet the band of activists who believe that everyone has the right to know the law. Hear why that’s so hard, what they’re doing to fix it, and how you can help. And, in the age of AI, learn how new tools make it more important than ever to have public access to the law.

Noon – 1pm The Caselaw Access Project
This month Harvard is releasing a trove of seven million cases from the collection of the law library. Hear how we did it and why it matters from the leaders of the project.

1 pm – 2pm The Future of Open Legal Data
What does it take to make the law free for everybody?

2 – 2:30 pm Access to Law is Access to Justice
The ability to know the law is a cornerstone of the larger project to build a just society. Remarks from Chief Justice Mark V. Green of the Massachusetts Court of Appeals and Professor Alexandra Natapoff
