Episode 28: Gale Hayde

In this episode, Edgar sits down with Gale Hayde from Custodial Services. Gale was born in Trinidad & Tobago and moved to US in 1999. She tells Edgar about what it was like growing up in Trinidad, having the freedom and fun of running around, flying kites and playing with cousins and friends. She talks about going to school where education is free and with higher education programs available to allow people to succeed and get good jobs. They also discuss food and the different fruits (pommerac, gru gru beff, Kaimet, five fingers, etc) that they have there.
When she moved to the US she felt the culture shock upon arriving but was able to find similarities that made Brooklyn feel like home. She bounced between Boston and New York, but decided she felt best in Boston. She started working at Harvard in 2016 where her daughter already worked. She worked night shifts at the Kennedy School and later was transferred to HLS, now working during the day. At HLS, she has good relationships with students and staff to whom she offers her Trinidadian way of advice.
